ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole misplaced his no-hit bid within the eighth inning when Tampa Bay’s Isaac Paredes led off by grounding a clear single to middle discipline.
Paredes hit a slider that bounced off the pitcher’s mound and into the outfield on Cole’s one hundred and fifth pitch Monday evening at Tropicana Discipline.
New York led 2-0.
The 31-year-old right-hander had struck out 12 and walked three by seven innings.
This was the second time this month that Cole began out with six hitless innings. He took an ideal recreation into the seventh towards Detroit on June 3 earlier than Jonathan Schoop’s two-out single.
There have been two no-hitters to this point this season, with 5 New York Mets pitches combining towards Philadelphia on April 29 and Reid Detmers of the Los Angeles Angels conducting the feat towards the Rays on Might 10.
