A huge bulk (67%) enacted a vote on Wednesday (1 June) to turn around Denmark’s 3 decades-long plan of avoiding of the European Union’s usual protection plan. One 3rd (33%) elected to maintain the protection opt-out. The ballot was called by the Danish Social Democrat federal government after Russia’s intrusion of Ukraine. Head of state Mette Frederiksen claimed the outcome was “a clear message to [Russian president Vladimir] Putin”.
